Director: Trey Parker
Gore Factor: Yes, but t's almost exclusively condensed into the opening scene.
Rewatchabiliy: On rare occasion.
Watch If: You're in the mood for silly comedy.
Not If: You're too accustomed to Blockbuster-style productions, and equate budget with success.
Similar To: I'll get back to you.
The Breakdown: This film follows the retelling of the unfortunate events that befell the lone survivor of a mining expedition.
Yes, it's based on a true story. And the idea to tell it via dark comedy musical?
Permit me to clarify, though. That's not a criticism. In this specific instance, it is perfect for the style of film they're making. Is it convincing? Hell no. Is it entertaining?
So why is it rated so poorly?
Had I not intended to review it, I firmly believe I would have opened the film, gotten about 3 minutes in, and written it off as just another shitty grad project.
It would have been my loss, but the fact remains the poor quality of the film, not only dates the film but also prevents viewers from getting to the good part.
